Anything you can do I can do Better…

Tuesday March 15th, 2011 :
Today we did sprint intervals on the treadmill..15 seconds on with 45 second rest.  Not too bad, right?  Well by round 5 I’m sucking some major air but convincing myself it’s justified because we are working at a high speed and incline so the heart and my breathing are racing!  I will say my final 5 rounds felt much better than my first 5 but that is beside the point.  Where it gets interesting is on the final round I exited the treadmill and think to myself “Yes – I made it”.  Off to the side I notice Jovick kind of fidgeting and mumbling something about “ok 1 minute  – boy this is going to really bite” to himself.   Since he is the lead I get to witness firsthand what he means by “this is going to bite”.  He sets the treadmill on a higher incline than any of our previous sprints AND increases the speed.  He says “ok we have a final one time for a 1 minute sprint” (keep in mind we just did 15 sec. sprints (which kicked our butts) so a minute sprint plus more incline and speed is a big change).   Jovick hops up and starts sprinting…60 seconds later (and some colorful talk)  he has finished his round.  By this time my stomach is in my throat.  Jovick turns to me with a little smirk and says “pick your incline and pick your speed”.  Being the competitive type that I am,  I think well “whatever you can do - I can do…and not pass outJ”.  I stepped on the treadmill with a mission and I made it – I did the minute sprint at his pace and his incline – take that Mr. Big Bad Jovick!
Note to self:  I am still hardheaded enough to make it through anything 1 time.
