Distracted…this is the adjective I would use to describe my day (atleast up until the completion of my workout). We have a heavy construction project going on in the facility this week. On top of that we had some electrical work being done in the new weight room set up – as we were doing our daily grunt work. Needless to say today wasn’t a great day for focus. We did work hard, but it wasn’t my best and I know I can do better. Many athletes run into this problem. Maybe they had a rough day at school, an exam they took and didn’t feel great about, in trouble at home with their parents, fight with a girlfriend or boyfriend, etc. The ability to shut that out and off and switch gears to the task at hand is key to high level performance – typically I test well in this department but today I give myself a B-. I can do better and I am better than I showed today. Luckily for me tomorrow is a new day.
Note to self: Give it everything you got otherwise it will haunt you the rest of the day.
